"Believe in life." - Isabelle Caro
The young lady featured in this ad, Isabelle Caro, has recently died at the age of 28 - in this ad campaign she weighed only 59 pounds. She had suffered from anorexia since the age of 13 and had been in and out of hospitals her entire life. She died coming from a job in Tokyo, and the cause of death has not yet been determined.
Oliviero Tuscani produced this campaign demoting anorexia and it's place in the fashion industry in 2007, which gave Isabelle Caro media attention throughout Europe and abroad. She published a book in 2008 called "The Little Girl Who Didn't Want to Get Fat" and also was featured on Jessica Simpson's VH1 show "The Price of Beauty".
When reading this article, I didn't realize that people actually make light of anorexia and have pro-anorexia websites (pro-ana), going so far to equating beauty to this. There should never be a point when people imprison themselves by making their entire existence dependent on their weight. We really should begin to promote healthy living, instead of spreading these irrational and deadly stereotypes of beauty.
I hope she will be remembered for her activism and strength.
RIP Isabelle Caro
